What types of servo motors does the servo driver board support?

Jan 09, 2026

Servo drive board (or servo motor drive) as the core control servo motor equipment, mainly according to the design and specification of the motor to support the motor type. According to public information, servo driver boards generally support the following types of servo motors:

1.DC Servo Motors
Features: Accurate control by armature current or excitation current using DC power supply. It is characterized by high response speed, high torque output and wide speed range.
Purpose: Suitable for high speed and torque applications such as manipulator and automatic production line.
Drive support: DC servo drivers usually includes H Bridge drive and PWM speed controllers, which can precisely control motor speed and torque.

2.AC Servo Motors
Features: Accurate control of speed and position by frequency and phase control using AC power supply. It is characterized by fast torque response, smooth movement and wide speed range.
Classification:
Asynchronous AC Servo Motors: suitable for general industrial applications, high reliability, good heat dissipation performance.
Synchronous AC Servo Motors: suitable for high precision control such as CNC machine tools and packaging machinery.
Drive support: AC servo drives is usually equipped with vector control algorithms, can accurately control the speed and position of the motor.

3. Brushless DC Servo Motor
Features: No brush or brush rings, current and torque controlled by electronic controller. Advantages are high power ratio, high speed, and electronic control.
Uses: Suitable for computer peripherals (e.g., disk drives, printers), hand-held power tools and vehicles (e.g. model airplanes, automobiles).
Driven support: Brushless DC servo drives achieve precise motor control through electronic current exchange technology, usually supporting high-speed and torque output.

4. Linear Servo Motor
Features: no transmission device, turning rotary motion into straight line motion, high positioning accuracy, fast dynamic response.
Uses: Suitable for applications that require precise linear motion, such as printing presses and CNC cutting machines.
Drive support: Linear servo drive usually employs feedback control system to achieve high precision linear positioning and motion control.

5. Stepper Servo Motor (Partially support)
Features: Driven by controlled current pulses, each pulse causes the motor to rotate at a fixed pace. It has the characteristics of high positioning accuracy and smooth movement.
Applications: Suitable for applications that require precise positioning and control, such as robots, automated devices and medical devices.
Driver support: although stepper motors is generally controlled by stepper drivers, some high-performance servo drivers can also support stepper servo motor control, especially those with open-loop control ability. However, this is not a mainstream application and needs to be defined according to specific driver specifications.
